HYUNDAI HOPE ON WHEELS ANNOUNCES 5K RUN/WALK ON MAUI TO BENEFIT CHILDHOOD CANCER RESEARCH IN HAWAII AND $75,000 HYUNDAI SCHOLAR GRANT TO KAPI’OLANI MEDICAL CENTER FOR WOMEN & CHILDREN

Hyundai
Hyundai Hope On Wheels announced the 2013 Hyundai Hope On Wheels 5K Run/Walk in Maui taking place on Saturday, January 5 at 7:00 a.m. at Whalers Village in Kanapaali, Maui, Hawaii. After its successful national 5K series during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month this September, Hyundai looks forward to bringing its signature 5K event to Hawaii as the kick-off to its 2013 Hope On Wheels program. The event will raise awareness and funds for pediatric cancer research and programs serving children battling cancer in Hawaii.

“We are thrilled to bring our growing 5K series to Maui for the first time in conjunction with the Hyundai Tournament of Champions to benefit childhood cancer research in Hawaii,” said John Krafcik, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor America. "Through Hope On Wheels and our partnership with Kapi’olani Medical Center for Women & Children, families on Oahu, Maui and across the entire state of Hawaii will have greater access to critical pediatric cancer resources.”

As part of the 5K, runners and walkers of all ages and skill levels are invited to participate in this family fun event by either registering for the run/walk or pledging to fundraise. Participants can register online at www.HyundaiRun4Hope.org for $35 until January 4. On-site registration will be available. Children 2-12 years of age can participate in the 5K for a discounted rate of $10, which also includes participation in the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Keiki Sprint just before the 5K begins. All participants will receive a race t-shirt and race bib, a commemorative medal, professional timing and access to the sponsors’ expo and the post-event celebration, where awards will be given to the top finishers.

“Our thanks go out to the Hyundai dealers, the company, and to Hyundai Hope On Wheels for their continued support of our institution,” said Martha Smith, Chief Operating Officer at Kapi‘olani Medical Center for Women & Children. “Community support like theirs is essential in helping us provide exceptional and comprehensive care to families across the state of Hawai‘i and the Pacific.”

“As part of this 5K event, Hope On Wheels will also award a $75,000 Hyundai Scholar Grant to Kapi‘olani Medical Center,” said Mickey Pong, Vice Chairman of Hyundai Hope On Wheels Board of Directors. “On behalf of all Hyundai dealers, we are proud to award our first grant of 2013, along with net proceeds raised at the 5K, to benefit a partnership between Maui Memorial Hospital, Kapi’olani Medical Center for Women & Children and the Hawaii Cord Blood Bank to support cancer research in Hawaii.”

Supporters who wish to fundraise on behalf of the cause can make a fundraising pledge and become a part of Team Hope. Simply set up a pledge team and you'll receive your very own fundraising page to jump start your donations. For more information about the Hyundai Hope On Wheels 5K Run/Walk in Maui, including registration and pledge details, please visit www.HyundaiRun4Hope.org.

In addition to the 5K run/walk, Hyundai continues to be the presenting sponsor of the Tournament of Champions PGA TOUR golf tournament for the third year in a row. The Tournament begins on Friday, January 4 and ends on Monday, January 7, 2013 at The Plantation Course at the Kapalua Resort in Maui. The 2013 Hyundai Tournament of Champions is the season-opening event of the PGA TOUR, which features only winners of the 2012 PGA TOUR season. In honor of this special event, each adult 5K registration will come with 2 passes to the final round of the 2013 Hyundai Tournament of Champions.

New Hyundai design kicks up a storm

Hyundai

Looks

The 2013 Santa Fe has been totally changed with a bold new style called Storm Edge. The smooth flowing sheet metal creates the impression of continuous motion, while the panoramic sunroof allows a tremendous amount of light in the cabin. The body coloured side mirrors feature a thin LED turn signal that helps improve safety, and the headlights are projector style with Xenon HID lamps. Fog lights are integrated into the front bumper and are standard on all models. The other change to the Santa Fe is substantial weight reduction. Hyundai uses 30 per cent more high-tensile steel in the unitized body/frame, lighter seat frames and interior trim and lighter suspension components, among other things.

In The Cab

A 12-way power adjustable driver’s seat with heated and cooled capabilities give this CUV a high level of luxury. The rear seats are also heated and feature a 40/20/40 split. An available 8-inch touch screen navigation system also provides video for the backup camera.

Safety First

Safety features include: seven airbags (dual front, front seat-mounted Side-impact, roof-mounted side-curtain with rollover sensor and driver knee airbag); Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with Traction Control System (TCS); four-wheel disc brakes; and Anti-lock braking system (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). Further improving driver and passenger safety is the Downhill Brake Control (DBC) and Hill start Assist Control (HAC) systems.

Power

There are two motors to choose from: a 2.4-litre DOHC four cylinder, that puts out 190 horsepower; and a 2.0-litre T-GDI four-cylinder with a turbocharger that packs a punch with 264 horsepower and 269 lbs.-ft of torque. The lone transmission is a six-speed automatic with shiftronic manual mode.

2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA GT NAMED “BEST VALUE” IN POPULAR MECHANICS’ 2013 AUTOMOTIVE EXCELLENCE AWARDS

Ahn

The 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT has been named “Best Value” in this year’s Popular Mechanics’ Auto Excellence Awards. The Elantra GT was recognized for its use of class-leading technologies, use of interior space, and competitive pricing. Popular Mechanics magazine covers how today’s technologies affect the things men are most interested in, including: their homes, consumer electronics, cars, science, computers, sports and current events and explains the way the world works today and into the 21st century.

“Of all the quality compacts currently available, most impressive is the new Elantra GT,” said Popular Mechanics editors. “The GT’s practical, wagon-like hatchback was built primarily for Europe, so it’s shorter than any other Elantra, but packs a substantial 51-cubic-foot cargo hold when the seats are folded down. That’s more than some larger wagons. Yet this hatch also shares some parts with Hyundai’s sporty Veloster coupe, so when the road turns into a twisty ribbon of fun, the GT is a willing partner.”

The Popular Mechanics’ Auto Excellence Awards recognize cars in 10 distinct categories: Car of the Year, Fun to Drive, Performance, Hauling, Luxury, Design, Versatility, Technical Innovation, Value and Fuel Efficiency.

“Elantra GT is a fun-to-drive, functional, five-door compact hatchback,” said Mike O’Brien, vice president, Product and Corporate Planning, Hyundai Motor America. “Elantra GT is one of the latest examples showcasing how Hyundai is redefining the compact car and setting new standards in automotive design, efficiency and functionality.”

Elantra GT’s utilization of space makes the interior feel roomy and comfortable. Under the skin, the Elantra GT shares some chassis tuning and suspension from the Hyundai Veloster, making it a nimble counterpart whether drivers are on city streets or mountain roads. Coupled with class-leading technologies such as Driver Selectable Steering Mode, and impressive standard features like Bluetooth connectivity, the Elantra GT sits at the top of the compact car segment, and with a starting price of $18,395, it delivers this driving experience at thousands less than the competition.

Spooky Witches Fingers

Fingersrecipe
Ingredients:

1 cup butter, softened

1 cup confectioners' sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon almond extract

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 2/3 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

3/4 cup whole almonds

1 (.75 ounce) tube red decorating gel

Directions:

  1. Combine the butter, sugar, egg, almond extract, and vanilla extract in a mixing bowl. Beat together with an electric mixer; gradually add the flour, baking powder, and salt, continually beating; refrigerate 20 to 30 minutes.
  2. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Lightly grease baking sheets.
  3. Remove dough from refrigerator in small amounts. Scoop 1 heaping teaspoon at a time onto a piece of waxed paper. Use the waxed paper to roll the dough into a thin finger-shaped cookie. Press one almond into one end of each cookie to give the appearance of a long fingernail. Squeeze cookie near the tip and again near the center of each to give the impression of knuckles. You can also cut into the dough with a sharp knife at the same points to help give a more finger-like appearance. Arrange the shaped cookies on the baking sheets.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven until the cookies are slightly golden in color, 20 to 25 minutes.
  5. Remove the almond from the end of each cookie; squeeze a small amount of red decorating gel into the cavity; replace the almond to cause the gel to ooze out around the tip of the cookie.

HYUNDAI DESIGN AND TECHNICAL CENTER CREATES “VELOCITY” FACTORY-TUNER CONCEPT FOR 2012 SEMA SHOW

Hyundaiconcept
COSTA MESA, Calif., Oct. 15, 2012 – Hyundai America’s internal design and technical center has created the “Velocity” factory-tuner concept for the company’s popular Veloster sport coupe. The Velocity concept proudly debuts at the 2012 SEMA show under the Hyundai banner. Velocity represents a joint effort between the Design and Engineering divisions of Hyundai America Technical Center in Irvine, California.

The Velocity concept expands on all of the original Veloster concept strengths in an aggressive, no-holds-barred factory-racer design language. Huge 19 x 9.0 inch, HRE lightweight satin-charcoal racing wheels, tarmac-scraping lower body kit with generous front and rear brake cooling ducts, lift-reducing rear diffuser, oversized rear wing, and #1 racecar design graphic. While unmistakably racetrack-oriented, the Velocity concept retains the original Veloster silhouette, focusing on exponential performance gains and functional design cues.

“In creating Velocity, we were inspired to take the Veloster’s original concept strengths to their fullest expression,” said Chris Chapman, head of Hyundai’s Irvine, California design center. “Velocity gave our design and engineering teams license to take Veloster far beyond everyday production car limitations.”

The 1.6-liter, direct-injected Veloster engine received customized engine modifications by Cosworth, including performance pistons, rods, turbocharger, intercooler, intake manifold, intake-charging design, fuel system and engine management. The new engine boasts more than 400 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque for explosive acceleration out of bends.

Matching the muscular exterior statement, Velocity suspension and braking modifications handle the acceleration capabilities under hood, with Brembo® 4-piston calipers and two-piece rotors, Bilstein® springs with monotube dampers, and Kumho Ecsta SPT 275/35R19 high performance summer tires.

2013 HYUNDAI SANTA FE EARNS IIHS TOP SAFETY HONORS

Ahn
The all-new 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe achieved the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) highest honor as a 2012 Top Safety Pick this week. Top Safety Pick recognizes vehicles that do the best job of protecting people in moderate overlap frontal, side, rollover and rear impact evaluations. Azera, Elantra, Sonata, Genesis, Equus, Tucson and Santa Fe are all 2012 Top Safety Picks.

“Safety continues to be a top priority at Hyundai, so we are thrilled to see our brand new Santa Fe on this important and prestigious list,” said Mike O’Brien, vice president, Corporate and Product Planning, Hyundai Motor America. “Hyundai is committed to developing and providing the best in both passive and active safety technologies. This IIHS Top Safety Pick confirms that the Santa Fe is both versatile and a safety and leader in its class.”

The IIHS Top Safety Pick ratings help consumers pick vehicles that offer the highest level of crash protection. Santa Fe meets the Top Safety Pick rating criteria by earning good ratings in all four IIHS evaluations (front, side, rollover and rear).

The all-new 2013 Santa Fe is equipped with Hyundai’s Active Driving and Safety Dynamics technologies that help drivers avoid accidents by giving them enhanced control in adverse situations. World-class Racing Tuner Cosworth Takes Hyundai’s Rear-drive Platform To its full Potential and Beyond

Ahn
Hyundai chose the world-renowned engineering design and manufacturer, Cosworth, as a development partner to create the ultimate Genesis Coupe known as the Cosworth Genesis Racing Series (CGRS). The eye-grabbing blue Cosworth CGRS concept will be showcased with the Hyundai brand at the upcoming 2012 SEMA show.

This special Cosworth-tuned model takes the new Genesis Coupe 3.8-liter, direct-injected engine to racecar levels, with an impressive 389 horsepower at 6400 rpm, and tire-shredding torque of 325 lb.-ft. at 5100 rpm, all with daily-driving civility. From the exterior, the Cosworth design theme radiates a retina-bending satin-gloss blue finish, aero front splitter, gunmetal-finish lightweight racing wheels, integrated rear spoiler, and blackout rear diffuser. While unmistakably race-oriented, the Cosworth concept retains the original Genesis Coupe design language, focusing most on astounding performance gains and real-world performance potential.

“The rear-drive Genesis Coupe is simply a great platform from which to build our ultimate Cosworth Genesis Racing Series street model,” said Nicole Armbrustmacher, director of marketing, Cosworth Americas. “The Cosworth Genesis Racing Series Coupe truly demonstrates the purpose-built performance potential of the affordable Genesis Coupe line. We’re proud to partner with Hyundai for this ultimate racing series model.”

While the exterior is purposeful and subdued, the Cosworth Genesis Coupe goes far beyond exterior cosmetics, with maximized under-hood performance modifications, a race-like interior environment, tires, brakes and suspension.

How to Jump Start a Car

Jumpercables

1. Make sure both cars are turned off.

2. Connect one end of the red (positive) jumper cable to the positive terminal on the stalled battery.

3. Then connect the other red (positive) cable clamp to the positive terminal of the good battery.

4. Connect one end of the black (negative) jumper cable to the negative terminal of the good battery.

5. Then connect the other black (negative) cable to a clean, unpainted metal surface under the disabled car’s hood. Somewhere on the engine block is a good place. Unless you want to see flying sparks and a possible explosion, do not connect the negative cable to the negative terminal of the dead battery.

6. Start the car that’s doing the jumping, and allow it to run for about 2 to 3 minutes before starting the dead car.

7. Remove cables in reverse order.

8. Keep the jumped car running for at least 30 minutes to give the battery sufficient time to recharge itself.
